Who can participate in Auskick?

Auskick is for boys and girls of all abilities if they have turned five prior to the end of 2024. Children can continue to play Auskick until they complete Grade 2.

How big is each group?

Group sizes vary from year to year, but the Prep and Grade 1 groups are typically the largest groups. We ensure that there are sufficient coaches for each year level to have a manageable coach/player ratio.

Who runs Hawthorn Auskick?

The centre is run entirely by volunteers under the guidelines and support of AFL Victoria.

Please visit our Volunteer page if you would like to be involved.

Who are the coaches?

All coaches are parents of Auskick participants who volunteer to help run the program.

The club welcomes and encourages all parents and carers to help with coaching and will facilitate training for those who want to coach. Speak to a coaching coordinator if you’d like to get involved.

I don’t know much about footy. Can I still help?

Absolutely! There are a number of ways to be involved, either as a coach, a helper or committee member. To find out more, please visit our Volunteer page.

What should my child wear to Auskick?

Hawthorn Auskick has no set uniform. Most kids wear the guernsey of their favorite AFL team, but participants are free to wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

Footy boots are optional, though they do help when it’s wet.

Does my child need to wear a mouthguard?

As Auskick is non-contact, mouthguards aren’t required but you are more than welcome to get one if you choose.

What happens when it rains?

We have a bias to not cancel the session if there is light rain. If there’s consistent rain on the Saturday morning, the coaching group will make a call on whether to cancel the session. Session cancellations will be conveyed via social media, on the website and through an email an hour or so before the session starts.
